6 hp will not run without choke

I am working on a 6 hp evinrude outboard that will not run without the choke pulled out.I rebuilt the carb and still no difference.Fuel pumps appears to be fine,it pumps when the motor turns over and it seems to have enough pressure.Compression is 80 lbs in both cylinders,and the plugs are good.There is blues sealant smeared all over this motor,so it would appear that someone has has it apart recently.

Any ideas.

patrick, if it will not run without the choke, points to a fuel problem, when you rebuilt the carb, did you disassemble, soak in carb cleaner over night, the blow out all orifices with compresed air, run a small wire thru all the orifices, and used a rebuild kit with a new float? if so check the float level. then start with the idle adjustment screw turned out 1 1/4 turn from soft seat.

Yes,the carb was soaked overnight.The carb is a small one so it is not very complicated,or so I thought.I did use a new kit when I rebuilt it.All orfices are open and clear.The float was set using a gauge.I am stumped.

Depending on the year, there is a fiber washer under the main jet, it will start to fall apart and plug up the jets. There's a new one in the kit, but if chunks of the old one are still in the carb they will plug up again. You either have plugged jets or an air leak.

See if you have the darn thing seated well maybe... an air leak
