IS SER # B08817568 CORRECT FOR A 1988 6 HP EVINRUDE ENGINE? ENGINE NOT SEEN YET, IT MAY BE LONG SHAFT . WHAT IS THE LENGTH OF STD Vs LONG SHAFT FOR THAT ENGINE.<br /><br />1966 33 HP JOHNSON CARB IS FOULED AND WILL NOT STAY IN ADJUSTMENT. COULD A NEWER CARB BE INSTALLED. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE ADVANCEMENT LINKAGE MUST BE MAINTAINED.

Hi Jimwelder,<br /><br />You need the model number, not the serial number.<br />The model number should be like E6RLCC (Evinrude, 6HP, Rope Start, Long Shaft, Year 1988.)<br />Short Shaft 15" <br />Long Shaft 20"<br />I it doesn't turn out to be a CC (for 1988) in the model number, check this swedish site: <br /> http://www.marinshopen.se/guide/omc/omc8098.htm <br /><br />What do you mean with "WILL NOT STAY IN ADJUSTMENT"? Is that the fuel/air mix knob? Have you checked the leather washer or rubber o-ring between the needle and the carb housing?<br /><br />(Edit: I'm typing very slow that's why you got two answers  ) :)

Re: 6 HP EVINRUDE ID, 33 HP JOHNSON CARB

THANKS FOR THOSE FAST REPLYS. HOPE TO SEE MANY OTHERS. I 'VE NOT SEEN THAT 1988 6 HP "RUDE" YET TO CHECKOUT THE MODEL NUMBER FIRST HAND. THE 1966 JOHNSON 33 CARB SHAFT PACKING IS VERY WORN AS ARE THE LOW/HIGH ADJUSTER PACKINGS, THE SPLINED ENDS WHERE THE ADJUST CAP FITS ARE WORN AWAY AND SLIP; AND THE IDEA TO UPGRADE TO NEWER UNIT MAY BOOST POWER AND RELIANCE. HOWEVER, A REBUILT CARB OF THE SAME TYPE IF AVAILABLE WOULD BE NICE. JIMWELDER
