Sound quality comes from other sorces than speakers, although they of course are the end result. Match your speakers to the wattage of the sound source.

Email me at micaiah9@juno.com, I have something you may be interested in.

You probably have a 50 x 4 head unit. Its become the standard in the last few years. If so I would go with clarion or sony marine speakers. Ebay is your best bet for a good price. I have sony in one boat and clarion in another and they are both really good and the rain and water doesnt hurt them in the least.

pioneer also makes a set of 8" 2 way marine speakers that sound good just runny off the head unit.

Best thing to do is to go listen to them. If you are mounting them into some panel, then a marine megastore may be a good bet to listen to different ones (westmarine usualy has a display with toggle switches to audition different ones). Of course, the unit will sound different in your boat but you do get a better feel than asking here :) .

If you are mounting stand-alone units, then typical electornics shops such as Circuit City would be a good bet to sample patio type outdoor speakers. The advantage here is that the speaker more or less sounds similar to what you get in the boat since the housing does not change. Polk Audio is the best sounding one in my opinion here.

Amir

One of the original posts said it right " you most likely have a 50 watt times four head unit" If you do not have one of these modern head units....consider getting one. One of the most important considerations for good marine sound is to have some power. You did not say what type of music you listen to.....if it's oldies or adult contemporary.... a basic 50wattX4 head unit with four 6.5inch speakers will do the trick. If you like modern music or need to "feel the music" then you are talking about something a little more powerfull.....such as with a powered subwoofer....or some amplifiers......let us know what you want to do on your boat.
