i need to know if my outboard is water cooled.the model number is g9001a and the serial number is 560112.its a 1955 model

Easy to tell. If the cylinder has fins, it's air cooled. If it doesn't, it's water cooled. Look at the cylinder from below.

I don't know if that is true CAT... My 7.5gamefisher has fins on the cylinder and also has a water pump impeller in the lower unit

On your engine, the cylinder is air cooled. Only the exhaust is water cooled. That's typical of these small air-cooled outboards. The engine is pretty much a two-stroke lawnmower engine, complete with fan.<br /><br />But...they route the exhaust through the midsection and cool the tube with water. That's strictly to keep the engine quiet. Only the exhaust is water cooled. The engine is not.

Im pretty sure you have a GG9001A 5 hp 2 cylinder water cooled.If it is a full gearshift it is based on the Evinrude Johnson 5.5 hp.
