I just picked up an older 5hp four stroke Nissan motor and I have a couple of questions.

How do I determine its age from the serial/model number?
What kind of oil do I use for crank case lubrication.

Thanks

Post your serial number and either Paul or I will let you know. The oil should be 10w-30 during the summer or 10w-40 during the winter.

Your oil should be FC-W certified. I prefer 10w-30 all year, but I'm from the balmy North :)

Well I finally got to run the 5hp today and I have more questions.

What does the little red light on the front of the motor do. It blinks a start and goes out when it is running is that right?

The engine changes speed at top end. I think it is cavitation, the prop is pretty worn is there a good place to get parts for this motor?
