Hello Ray, welcome to iboats.

Look on the block for a large core plug. The model and serial number will be on there. Post it and we can help.

5HP sounds like a pre-1964 engine, Ray.

You need to find out the year, because you may need to use a 24:1 mix.

There is a web site that has pix, but I don't know the URL. Someone may post it here.

Good luck. :)

Thankyou JB, here is abit more info but i dont know if it will be of any use!it is a standard shaft, direct drive (no reverse or neutral gears), there is a lever on the right of the engine(if sat in boat)which says stop/start/fast and it uses a external fuel tank only plus it has a recoil hand pull starting mechanism. hope this helps

Re: 5hp evinrude i.d. with only a serial number

Evinrude 'Angler' engines (5hp) were produced from 1965 to 1968. They did not have a full (any really) gearshift like their Fisherman (6hp) brothers. The earlier 5.5hp (also known as Fisherman) did have a full gearshift.

Go to The Old OMC Site to try to get a visual ID from their catalogs. Beware that the colours are often not accurately represented. They styling is though.

Since your engine has to be a post '63 model, the correct ratio is 50:1.

Good luck!

Thankyou Paul, well i'm impressed, using The Old OMC Site did the trick, it is a 1968 model with a choice of 5802/5803 model number, now with the serial number that i already have (C0557079)can this be crossed referenced and verified? but thankyou again i am very impressed with the speed at which a positive reply was given, cheers.
RAY

No problem. :)
That serial number is consistant with the late 60's - and it seems to me to have been used around '68-'69. I think if you think it's a '68, it very probably is. I'm afraid that's the best I can do.
I belive the 5803 is the longshaft version of that engine. If you have a 5" section added between the lower unit and the midsection, then you should use that number. Otherwise, it's the 5802 which is much more common.
