59 Johnson Lower end rebuild

Just an observation.The new prop shaft seal and drive shaft seals look much more lightweight. They fit but have less metal and rubber. Since these kits are aftermarket and the rebuild requires some labor, just want to be sure this is "normal"

Yeah, it is "normal". I'll leave it up to opinion as to whether or not it is "better". But one thing I might add is that if the new ones are thinner, and if there is room, you can use two seals back to back as newer motors do. That is "better" because then they will serve to keep oil in and water out. Seals of this type are more effective in one direction than the other direction.
