I have a 50 hp Evinrude from 1959 (model 50518) mounted on the back of a 1959 Dorsett Catalina, and I'm trying to revamp the poor 50 year old wiring. I'd like to keep a vintage engine on the vintage boat, and I plan on using this boat for diving and camping, as well as using the trolling motor. Only problem is, the motor has no way to charge the battery. If I'm going to be out on the waves for an extended time, I'm looking for the security of a recharged battery.
Anybody know of a retrofit for this old engine, or parts less expensive than a different engine?
