Pictured seal / bearing ..... something to replace while at it? Did shift rod O ring, prop shaft seal, and drive shaft seal. New impellor. Don't seem to be able to locate this part on site.
It is a seal. There is also an o ring around the exterior of the housing as you can see. I always change them out, as I buy them in bulk for when I do restorations, but if the o ring is soft and pliable, and the seal is not worn it should be ok.
I didn't notice an o ring upon dissassembly..... hmmmm..... stuck to the housing and undetected? I recall seeing an o ring in some water pump kits, so the explains it. I am guessing it squeezes between the two halves? It looks more a size to fit around seal. It pumped water before getting into it, but why go this far and not replace?
Thank you! Glad I asked questions. There was an o ring at top of shaft.....thought it was a sling washer. Nope... it was an o ring that used to sit in a groove inside seal. I now see outside o ring.. glasses help..... now I think I'm just missing an o ring on top of wear plate.
According to a parts diagram from another site, there is not an Oring on the wear plate. My shop manuals from the 70s say to use a little gasket sealer under the plate. I dont know if that is correct for your motor or not.
No gasket there as mentioned. Use 3m847 if you have it to seal the plate down though. Helps keep the air out of it. ALso, ensure your vent hole is clear on the top of the impeller housing before installing.
