I just got a 58 Evinrude LArk 35 horsepower motor for very cheap. (just can't stop buying them)
It is electric start and has good compression but it is too heavy to carry out to my barn through 2 feet of snow so I am not sure yet if it has spark.
What I was hoping to get was a general concensus about this particular model. Is it worth putting $$ into it? I usually buy motors under 10 pounds so I am not sure what to do with this motor.
The only thing that is missing is the rear tower cover as far as I can tell.
Thanks in advance

Re: 58 rude lark 35hp

I think the Lark was the top of the line.If it has the starter and generator that is a plus.
Not sure but I think they had a seperate box that mounted on the transom with the regulator and starter relay in it.The motor is based on a design that dates back to about 51.A reliable
bulletproof motor with good low end power.Pretty heavy on gas compared to more modern motors.Use 24:1 fuel mix with TCW3 rated oil.Routine parts are readily available Ignition coils tend to crack and breakdown with age.Of course it shares parts with Johnsons of that era.

I've got the equivalent Johnson, and I'm in the same situation. It's just too darned cold to work on outboards right now. Now, we're getting several inches of snow. More delays.

I have a 58 jofny 35hp, great engine, it goes with me on almost every fishing trip! (unless I go with someone else and they want to take their boat) Has been verry reliable for me.
