58 Johnson Lower Unit Troubles

Help!! I am trying to replace the impeller on my 58 Johnson 33 Super Seahorse, but cannot get the lower unit to come off. I have removed the screw that I think holds the gear shaft in place, (the one that is nearly impossible to get the screw back in), but still it seems that something is holding the lower unit on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem, there is another srew that i did not even know was there. it is behind the plate. I did get it off but now I see some kind of bar holding it in. (like a shaft inside) Did you get response from your question and if so, would you send me what I need to do to get that out. thanks

they didn't make a 33hp in 58. If you have a 33hp you have to take the large shroud off the back of the motor to get at the long bolt that is still houding the unit on. It comes in from the top, unlike the 6 small bolts that go in from the bottom.<br />corm
