Howdy Gents! It's been quite awhile since I was able to post anything due to the workload and the fact that I can't keep a good working PC.
At any rate: I get to work on my little motor and boat about one hour a week max.I finally got the freakin' 'Rude back together save the electrics.New plugs, points, coils, blah, blah.I attempted to actually crank the thing manually tonight with the pull-rope.It won't happen. It sputters as if it wants to crank, but that's it.The carb seems to be PUKING gas, unless I have the slow or fast idle needle valves completely shut off(These needle valves are new as well).Looks like it's flooding really bad.I have a sneaky feeling that my carb float has sunk like a rock.It just so happens that the float was the only thing that was not replaced.I have great spark on both plugs,Compression is even on both cylinders.Plugs wires are new as well.
Bad float?? I want to get it started without burning down my yard.Any tips are always appreciated, as usual.

Dismantle the carb and double check your work. Sit the float in a liquid.... if it sinks, replace it.

(Carburetor Float Setting)
(J. Reeves)

With the carburetor body held upside down, the float being viewed from the side, adjust the float so that the free end of the float (the end opposite the hinge pin) is ever so slightly higher (just ever so slightly off level) than the other end. And when viewed from the end, make sure it is not cocked.

(Carburetor Adjustments - Two Adjustable N/Vs)
(J. Reeves)

Initial settings are: Bottom high speed = seat gently, then open 1 turn out. Top slow speed = seat gently, then open 1-1/2 turns.

Setting the high and low needle valves properly:

NOTE: For engines that DO NOT have a shift selection, obviously there is no NEUTRAL position. Simply lower the rpms to the lowest setting to obtain the low speed needle va /lve adjustment.

(High Speed) Start engine (it will run pretty rough), shift into forward gear, take up to full throttle. In segments of 1/8 turn, wating for the engine to respond between turns, start turning in the bottom high speed needle valve. You'll reach a point whereas the engine will either start to die out or spit back (sounds like a mild backfire). At that point, back out the needle valve 1/4 turn. Within that 1/4 turn, you'll find the smoothest setting.

(Low Speed) Slow the engine down to where it just stays running. Shift into neutral. Again in segments of 1/8 turns, start to turn the top needle valve in. Wait a few seconds for the engine to respond. As you turn the valve in, the rpms will increase. Lower the rpms again to where the engine will just stay running. Eventually you'll hit the point where the engine wants to die out or it will spit back. Again, at that point, back out the valve 1/4 turn. Within that 1/4 turn, you'll find the smoothest slow speed setting.

When you have finished the above adjustments, you will have no reason to move them again unless the carburetor fouls/gums up from sitting, in which case you would be required to remove, clean, and rebuild the carburetor anyway.

also check the bowl vent in the carb body. if dirt daubers have nested there it will allow air pressure to keep the float down and it will flood. dont ask how long that one took to find :)

Thanks Commander Joe! I'm gonna rip the carb back off and get myself a proper rebuild kit.Thank God there's not as many parts to those things as a Holly 4 barrel.Always had parts left over on those....
As far as the dirt daubers go,It wouldn't suprise me.You should have seen the size of the black widow spider I found in the lower unit when I took it off!

Get the carb kit from a Johnson/Evinrude dealer. It has the new float in it. The Sierra one doesn't.
