Any one know if a transom mount (clamp style) from a '58 35 horse Evinrude can be put on a '64 60 horse Evinrude?

I have a 60 horse that I've never used. But it's transom mount is the kind that you drill holes in the transom. I don't want to put holes in my boat, I'd prefer to keep the clamp on style like on my 35 horse.

I haven't had the chance to take a real close look yet.

If you do not put transom bolts on the boat, that V4 motor will fall off, into the drink. Ask me how I know!

I don't believe that'll fit, and you don't want to do it anyhow. That big fat 60 absolutely needs to be bolted to your transom. No question about it. It will shake itself right of your transom if you clamp it on...guaranteed.

Heck, I have my little 6hp Johnson bolted to my transom. Best safeguard you can have.

Well, I was afraid of that. I've never had a problem of a motor coming loose. (10,18,25,35). But I'll heed your advice. Either Sell the 60 or bolt it on. Argggghhh. What to do!

Got a 14 foot '56 Crestliner Viking Deluxe. Rated at 50 hp for '56, and 60hp for '57 with no changes. 35 is "OK" at 28mph with decent accelleration, but really wanted that 60 on there. Might just stick with the 35. (but that's a different subject I supose :) )

How well does the 60 run and what kind of condition is it in? If it is going to be permament the bolt holes won't matter........Just a thought.

OMC did not make a 50 HP motor in 1956. The first 50HP motor was 1958. 60 HP motors followed in 1960.

Why not put a more modern 3 cylinder 50/60HP motor on that boat?

This boat is a good example of the rating not matching what was available. But (2) 25 horse motors where available, as where (2) 30 horse, not to mention Mercs in all flavors too.

I'm not interested in anything more modern. The '64 Rude is REALLY a stretch as it is. To me, asking why I don't buy a newer motor is like asking why I don't buy a brand new Ski Natique (sp). It's a classic boat, needs a classic motor. IMO. (hope that doesn't come across as a bad attitude, I like modern boats too, but this one is special how it is.)

oh, and CapnHook - I have no idea how/if the '64 runs. I got it for cheap, and have done nothing with it. Not sure I will. It's really a bit more modern than I'd like. It is the ONLY fiberglass hooded motor I'd ever consider, but really doesn't match the boat.

I did not realize you were going for a classic look.

BTW - 50HP on a 14 footer is quite a lot, weight wise and powerwise. I had a 1960 Crestliner 14 foot runabout that I put a fat fifty on. I had to rebuild the splashwell because the weight of that fatty caused water to come over the transom while boat was at rest. I don't know what type of boat you have, however, 2 - 35HP motors is nearly 300# and that fat 60 is just under that in weight. You might just turn your boat into a submarine.
