57 johnson controls

I'm new to this boating thing so please bear with me. I just bought a 1957 Johnson seahorse 35hp rd-19 outboard motor, but the seller doesn't have the controls. I have no idea what they look like, let alone where to get them. I've been told that there are 2 differnt types for that motor but I don't know how to tell what I want. Can some one give me a shove in the right direction to find out what I need?

Johnson Shipmaster, Evinrude Simplex, Gale Bosun---they are all the same with different brand names. Within that are teh two types, round ball levers and the newer shaped levers. The round balls would be "correct" for the 1957, but the shaped ones are much better controls and will work on the '57 also.

Whichever you choose, make sure you get the complete control, including the cables and cable ends, even if the cables are shot. New cables are available here at iboats, but come without the ends, which need to be removed from the old cables.

HI big. Welcome to iboats. Cool motor you got there! I wish I had one. Here's a great link that can walk you through hooking up the controls F_R mentioned along with some links for basic maintenance. You should be able to get most routine, consumable parts like carb kits, points & condensers, oil seals, etc.....right here at iboats. Good luck. Holler if you get stuck. Any pics?
