55 chrysler? 2-cylinder-single carb?

lots of potential sources of trouble. not because it's a chrysler but because it's sat for so long.

all she needs is 1-Compression, 2-Fuel (correct amount) and 3-Spark (at the right time)

From here, I'm guessing that the carb needs to be serviced (cleaned and rebuilt) and that the magneto ignition could use a "once-over"

first thing to do is to confirm you've got something worth the effort. so do a compression check should read 100+ psi in both cylinders with no more the 10% difference between the cylinder readings.

If memory serves, other then the key in the crank shaft that locks the flywheel in place, and the plug wires on the correct plugs, not much can upset the timing.

if she checks out as resonably "sound" take a look at the attached link. it'll give some good advise for getting her ready to run.

http://www.precisionserv.com/Outboards/Revitalization.htm

Good Luck
HAVE FUN

what year is your chrysler? try spaying gas in to you carb and then try to start it. If it starts you may need to rebuild the carbs. Also check the spark plug. does you primer bulb get hard to pump when your pumping it? also check your fuel pump to see if the screen is clean. Do a compression check. And DO NOT use stating fluid.

I agree, remove, disassemble, clean, reassemble and reinstall carb. NAPA sells a carb rebuild kit for your motor for about $10. If you have a flywheel puller, check the points. One set on my 55 were VERY pitted. Chrysler manual says to clean carb in gasoline-probably cheaper than carb cleaner.

My info indicates your motor could have 1 of 3 types of ign. Magneto, battery ign.or Magnapower
capacitor discharge ign.
Magneto will have typical coils, points under the
flywheel. My book doesnt make it clear about
battery ign.CDI ign. has a stator under the fly-
wheel with 2 sets of points and external separate coils with a CDI box.

I've got a battery type ignition 55HP. It has a stator, 2 sets of points and condensers under the flywheel. It then has 2 external coils but no CD Module.

Shane
