Original mix was 24:1. Some will argue, but in my opinion, that motor will do just fine on 50:1. Having said that, some 1956 30 hp motors had bearing and seal problems. If it tears up on 50:1, it was going to do that anyway

The seal problem I referred to was the lower crankshaft seal. An engineering screw-up used an inferior seal that allowed water ingestion into the crankcase, rusting all the bearings. Later production numbers fixed the problem.

I had a few 1957 35 horse engines in that color and a 1958 in the same pattern but slightly different color patterns. The color name is holiday bronze. They all had pin needle bearings and could already be run on 1:50. (I never did). The one thing most people ignore when writing about oil mixes is that the 1950ies oil recommended was 30 weight engine oil and the modern outboard 2 stroke oil is of a much higher quality. I have always run a 1:32 mix on these old engines without ever a problem.

We ran a 57 35hp at 50:1 using the OMC Oils, never had any problems.
In fact, OMC had issued a Bulletin stating that a lot of their engines, made prior to the 1964 Model Year could run 50:1 as long as you used their Oil. The older 24:1 and 16:1 ratio was still in place for use with regular Outboard Oils, or Non-detergent SAE 30

Your picture shows a 1956 30 hp hood. But they can be swapped. Model number is here between stern brackets. If it ain't there, somebody has removed it. If you will back off with that camera to show a shot at the rear, toward the spark plugs, we can tell you for sure 30 or 35 hp

You can't bore a 30hp to 35hp. But you can put a 35 powerhead on a 30. A picture can tell the truth.
