it seems a little underpowered then what it should be on my fishing boat. It runs and starts up fairly east, on idle it sometimes cuts out when it is warmed up, but other then that it gets me going were i need to go.

Where should i start at when going over this motor? What kind of performance should i expect out of this motor?

I want to use it because A) i think it will look good on my new boat and B) hell you cant beat free on a price lol

any halp guys would be much appreaciated

Don't you think this would get better response in the Chrysler Troubles Forum, DHatcher?

Looks like a 55 Chrysler I had.

If yours has a Magna Power ignition then do not invest too much into fixing it up.

When that thing goes, there are NO replacement parts I could ever find.

Had two Chrysler engines and both are in the junkyard for lack of those ignition parts.

Apparently Chrysler once offered a kit to replace the Magna power but those are long gone.

I actually glad that he did post on a two year old thread. I recently bought a smaller Chrysler to fix up and have developed a mild interest in them because the older versions, like the older OMC motors, seem to be pretty simple and easy to rebuild. That said, I just learned something that I didn't know - namely that the versions with Magna Power ignition aren't so great.

Re: 55 hp Chrysler

Its ONLY the MAGNA-POWER II that is troublesome. Other ignition systems by Motorola are OK, and of course, there is nothing electronic to go wrong with plain old points and condenser systems
