I have a 55 evinrude electric start, does the motor have some sort of alternator on it to recharge my battery, or do i just have to make sure it is recharged myself?

If thats a 1955 possibly not, I dont think it was until the electric shift (mid to late 60s) that evinrude had a complete charging system, but it may have some sort of generator. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this for you. You'd almost think that it would have to, even with a new battery it wont take long for the starter to flatten it!

They didn't start putting generators on them till the 1957 35hp came out. And even then it was an accessory. Since the battery is only used for starting it will last a long time between charges. That is if the motor is starting as easy as it's supposed to.
