ASI,

You can find it at farm and fleet or walmart or I think you can get the gun size at menards or ace hardware..

It's a bulletproof sealant that can be used below the waterline. It has significant adhesive properties so be careful where you use it. Tough stuff and very durable.

3m's 5200 is great stuff for bonding most anything to fiberglass, both above and below the waterline. but it's not recommended for some plastics. if you need to bond plastic or are unsure of the material, i'd suggest life seal. can't remember who makes it, but can be found right next to 5200 in most marine stores. it bonds to everything and also works below the waterline.

Also, 5200 is great for gluing children to the wall, should the babysitter ever fail to show.

Mattttt25,

You said 5200 bonds almost anything to fiberglass? Do you know if it will bond hypalon to fiberglass? I have a hypalon inflatable and it is starting to peel off of the rigid hull. only about 1/2 inch but it is leaking water.

Jollymon - Absolultely NO!!! You need two-part epoxy made specificly for bonding Hypalon.

The good stuff is made in England but commonly available here. Look for brand name: Poly Marine, LTD.

In addition to fiberglass, 5200 sticks especially well to hands, face, ears, glasses and hair.

18rabbit,

Will the 2 part epoxy stick to the fiberglass? That is the only reason I thought about 5200. If not does any one know what will stick to both?

Re: 5200 sealant????????

Jollymon - Yes. There are other brands of two-part epoxy that can be used, as well. You will need to clean the surfaces and wipe with MEK. Mix epoxy, apply to both surfaces and let dry until it’s tacky. Press together; use something smooth to press hard working from the inside toward the edge of the patch. Use a gum eraser to remove any excess epoxy. Either clamp or place weight and let dry overnight.

What you are doing is primarily a cosmetic repair. You can get the best bond by using a Dremel tool with a pink stone bit to clean up the old surfaces before wiping with MEK.

Good luck! :)
