50hp TLDI tiller handle diagnostics

I had a 90hp TLDI on my previous and also bought the factory manual which gave all the information to read fault codes and engine hours thru the tach. Now I'm going to put a 50hp TLDI with a tiller handle on the boat I'm now building. I'm assuming the tiller doesn't have a tach to go with it, so will I still be able to read any codes, engine hours or diagnostics with this motor? Also, how will I know if I'm propped right without a tach?

The tiller-model TLDI has 3 LED's at the tiller, so you will have the indicator lamps, but no tach.

The only way to definitively dial in the correct prop will be by attaching a tach, even if only temporarily. If you get the TLDI tach, you will have "everything", just like the remote motor had.

No, you need the Tohatsu tach to read the codes correctly. Does that mean that one aftermarket tach that one person has tried will not read back some codes? No. But the luck or partial luck of one person is not something to envy on something that can cause an expensive repair. IE Electronic feedback that leads to a malfunction. Better to spend the extra few dollars and not have any doubt. Personally I'm the king of cheap, but I never skimp on anything where my life might depend on it. Getting stranded out on the water is a lot more dangerous than being stranded on the side of the road:)

That leads to the next question then...can I get a Tohatsu tach even if I'm using a tiller handle? I can figure out where to mount it.

Elvin, which internet site do you recommend (wink wink). As long as it's a plug and play item i can add after the fact, I don't need to buy it from the installing dealer in maine. Also, could I add a remote key switch afterwards as well?

For an internet site, internetoutboards.com as it has a working cart system. Most dealers on the web are the kind with the "trade emails back and forth type". I don't have a connection to internetoutboards.com as I sold that one off years ago...And yes, you can.

To clarify, you DO NOT need the factory tachometer to run the diagnostics on a TLDI tiller handle, correct? You can use the warning LED's on the tiller. I am assuming the three warning lamps on the tiller are the same as the ones on the Tach (?).

Thanks

Elvin's right (as usual :)

The 3 LED's are the same indicators, but you also need the tach pointer for diags.
