50hp Only Runs A Few Seconds

I have a 1972 50hp thunderbolt mercury I will startup run a few seconds and die out can some one help me out here please?

If you gently squeeze the bulb while it is running, does it run longer?

I had this problem and rebuilt carbs and re-adjusted them.Solved the problem. They were not that dirty, but the floats were not properly set.
