50hp merc power t/t question

Bought a older 15ft fibreglass boat made by Tempest which came with a 50hp merc. I believe it's a 1979 thunderbolt 4cyl model.
The previous owner removed the power t/t and rigged up a Atv winch for raising and lowering the motor. The motor runs fine. Had it out a few times with the wife and we're able to cruise along well around 25mph. As soon as we added a third person we rarely were able to get up on plane.

Would a power t/t solve this problem?
Different prop? (need new one anyways)

I would like to see this winch idea please post a picture! The first thing you need is a tachometer to find out what RPM your motor is turning at, then you can choose a prop that puts you at 5500 rpm full throttle (possibly a 19 pitch one), also, you should be able to run the motor without trim by setting the tilt pin at the 2nd hole out from the transom.

A marine tach set at 6p and attached to one of the stator leads coming from under the flywheel, NOT the red one.
