Hello,
I recently bought an 50hp johnson outborad from around 85-86, two cylinder two stroke. I starts great every "first" try of the day and runs somewhat ok. But if a stop it try to start it again, it doesn't work and the sparkplugs are all wet, so quess it's running a bit to rich and soaks.

I have removed and cleaned the carbs but the looked fine to me. I checked the floater funktion and it seals ok so that should work. I however found some gas coming out from the carbs when I removed them so I was thinking that the jet-thing is leaking, does that make sense? What else can it be? I have replaced the sparkplugs but not tested since.

I would appreciate all the tips and help I can get!

float needles not seating properly, adjust them, use a rebuild kit. after reassembly, attach a hose and blow thru it. right side up you should be able to blow into the carb, up side down, no way. read the TOP SECRET FILE.

ok, thanks. I tried to blow it and it seals when the floater is resting in the needle, but works fine when I i lift the floater. Can it still be that? How does the jet work? It lookes like a pipe whith a few small holes in it and a smaller pipe inside, coming down from the venturi to the floater cup bottom.

Ok, got some more input. The previous owner told me that the engine was overheating, or at least that the heat-alarm came on after a while. I have replaced the impeller and flushed the system and it looks fine. BUT, the heatindicator in the top looks bad. The wire is visible as the plastic has melted, and I don't get a signal when I ground it. Now to my point, this wire is connected to something that looks like a primer soloniod????? Can this be the reason why it is getting soaked, that the engine is pushing more fuel in order to get the temp down??? I might be out in the dark, but it's an idea....
