50ESL71S died, now backfiring.

I got my 71 50hp hydroshift running after replacing the powerpack. it ran great and shifted like it should for 5 minutes, then it died and now it won't start and all i can get is a backfire. It seems to have good spark and i'm out of ideas.

compression or fuel. you can try squirting some premix in the carbs.

Have you checked the flywheel key ??
