hi everyone.
i notice when my engine is running at idle, the tach reads about 700-750. there is a regular surge, and it bumps the rpm up to about 800.
my service manual says the max idle in gear is 650. am i going to damage my engine? if i adjust the throttle linkage to idle below about 700, it will stall. compression is over 115 on all four and within 7 pounds of each other.
i am wondering what could be causing the idle problem? also seems a little rough at idle.
the rpm seems to steady at about 1500 (the highest i want to run on a pair of earmuffs).
i have changed the plugs, installed new coils, stator, rectifier (not to fix this problem, but because it needed to be done when i bought the engine), and rebuilt the carbs.
i am also running it on a flushette.
i have completely restored this boat, and have not taken it onto the water yet (next weekend!!!).
my local boat guru mentioned backpressure because the engine has no load running it on a flushette?
he also told me not to worry until i put in in the water and put a load on the engine, then see how it acts. but, you know...it's my baby...

the motor will run diffrently when in in the water as a result of backpressure thru the hub, he is right take it out on the boat and see it run under a load make sure you have fresh gas, most likely after a high speed run it will clear itself out!

You CANNOT check idle on the muffs. No backpressure, Backpressure is needed for a two stroke engine.

DO NOT change anything until you have checked it out on the water.

The 135 never was a very smooth idling engine.
