...cause that's a lot of ponies to hold on to with one hand!!!!!

You must be looking 'prevoiusly owned'. Most folks with an engine that size have helm controls.

New engines can be procurred tiller controlled.

For a previously owned engine, check around your gill netters and small-time crabbers. :)

You didn't say what brand you were looking for, but you can buy a tiller handle and mount it on most motors without a great deal of work.

I see lots of them.
Not as many as helm but still quite a few.

Not uncommon to see them much bigger.
I saw a guy last week going by at about 50mph with some big tiller. It was screamin.

Maybe it depends where you live.

As far as how big on tillers, fished with a guy last week, he has a 225 E-Tec tiller (prop), another guy has a 300 Yamaha (jet). Not that uncommon around here.

I realize you can order any size with a tiller, but I'm looking for something from the '80's around 50 hp.I've searched all around Ohio and have come up with squat. Conversion kits are over $1,000 and to modify my boat for remote steering would be just as much.
Thanks

Converting one doesn't cost that much, almost any tiller handle will fit if it bolts to the steering tab on the front of the motor. I converted my 90hp with the tiller from a 40hp, I needed to modify the throttle cable mount on the carb linkage with a small plate, but it was very easy to do. Tiller handles go for about $100.00 or less.

Funny you should ask. I picked up a used Honda 50 horse a couple of weeks ago. It was in a local dealer's showroom for about a year before I finally decided to pick it up. It replaced a 35 Evinrude that I sold to my BIL and does a great job on my 16' Lund.
