I have a 1982 50 HP Mercury motor. After a period of time running the motor wide open the motor just suddenly loses power or starts to dog not giving me full power. When I turn the motor off and wait a little while I will have full power again when I try to go wide open. This week end I had a new experience where i was running at low speed ,because of a channel and a no wake zone, and when I exited the zone and went to give it full power it would only give me limited power. Any idea what the problem might be and what I should do? Thanks

Sounds like it could be one of a few things.

Fuel starvation due to
Clogged filter
fuel pump
fuel connector leaking air into fuel stream
dirty jets in the carbs

Lack of lubrication causing partial seizing of piston(s)

ignition components breaking down into a partial failure or losing cylinder(s)

First try pumping the fuel bulb while it happens and let us know if it clears up momentarily. If that does nothing we can eliminate some issues and continue on with the diagnostic help.

When it does this.. Check for spark at all sparkplugs.

Next time the motor acts up this way, try squeezing the primer bulb. If the motor picks back up then check your fuel system from the vent on the tank to your fuel pump for restrictions and kinks. Check your fuel line for leaks by pressuring it up with the primer bulb and do a visual on all the lines and connections. Check your primer bulb and last check the fuel pump.

Good luck

Thanks For the Feedback. I took the boat out last night and everything appeared to be fine, but while I was out I did check the primer bulb and the fuel line to see if it changed in any way. From what I could tell everthing was the same. i am going out this Friday again I will run more tests so that I can still check the things that have been recomended.
