I have a 1994 model Crest 24' pontoon, with a 1993 model Johnson 50 HP outboard. It starts up & runs fine, but I have recently started to have a problem. When I reduce the throttle down to about 2,000 RPM's or idle speed, (say to produce no wake under bridges) when I apply the throttle back after the no wake zone, the engine wants to surge. Sort of like I am pushing the throttle lever back & forth, or reving it up & down. It wont come back to higher RPM's, just surges. I can cut the key off, restart the engine & it runs fine. It also has never really idled that great at really low RPM's, always wants to cut off. (like when docking) So just wondering what you guys think? I have changed the plugs recently & my dealer had a NGK plug, that was one step colder than what I was running. So I don't know if this is part of the problem or not? Could it be loading up? Thanks!
