50 hp 81 Johnson lower end reinstall

Do I just slide lower end in or is shift linkage need to be attached to ? I'm a newbie . Also noticed prop dosent lock in any gear pls help

If I remember correctly, the prop will move freely, some linkages need to attached, not sure of that year.
