Hello, I have a 50 Force motor about a 1986 I believe. When going from Neutral to forward or reverse, the motor tends to die. It runs well otherwise, however it is a pain when fishing to have to restart the motor 6 or 7 times before going to another fishing spot. Thanks guys, this forum has been extremly helpful!

With boat in the water, what is the idle speed in neutral? should be 900-1000
What is the idle speed in forward? should be 700-800

Wow, good question. I just had it serviced and the mechanic was telling me that the idle was set too high. He set the idle at I believe 800 in neutral, however, I cannot be exactly sure. I will find out though. Thank you!

Re: 50 force dies before putting into gear

I have a 1990 force 50 that is doing the same thing. I just bought the boat, it has good compression 120psi. Once your going the motor runs fine, it's just when you put it in gear it stalls.

What's the best way to measure the RPM's?
