miloman,

How much did the starter and seal set you back in the end?

I thought your boat was rated for only 40 hp? If it is, going bigger than 50, you are gonna start looking at handeling and safety problems.

What's it worth?
It is worth what someone will willingly pay. Every market is different, and all it takes is one willing buyer. How fast do you want to sell it?
It is an impossible question to answer.
I know what it would be worth to me. Not a whole lot. But that's just me...

John

Re: 50 evinrude

hey there yes my boat is rated for a 40 but it is a 92 my motor is a 73 50 which was rated at the powerhead prob is less then 40 on the prop the starter set me back $100 and the seal kits set me back $145 plus gear oil which I thought was pricy but oh well my labour set me back a full 12 pack sore knuckle I dont want to know how many smokes and one well rounded beef with the wife the paint was a factory color code which I matched at Canadian Tire alond with the clear coat about $40 I still have not had any one tell me what they really think it is worth ?? I mean I have $200 invested in the work I did and 190 in the rebuilt carbs ( I thought that was cheap) so the motor is in excellent shape in fact im going fishin this weekend I had it out in lake Ontario and now is 42 mph on the gps as opposed to 37 prior to

42 mph is pretty fast for a standard 16ft boat. Especially on big water like Lake Ontario.
How fast are you wanting to go?

Oh, and the only way to really see what it is worth is to look at other ads and see if there are comparable motors and what they are selling for locally. Or put an ad in the classifieds somewhere at a price you want, and see if you get any response.
Or go to a dealer that sells lots of used motors and see what he says, and maybe he will sell it on consignment or something.
There may be a "bluebook value" on it, but on a 1972 model, it won't be much.
If it is in as good a shape as you suggest, and it pushes your boat 42 mph, why would you sell it?
