Hi all,
I'm considering purchasing and used 50-60 hp outboard (4 strokes) motor for my fiberglass 15 footer. I couple questions:
a. Will a 50-60 motor be able to put a tube or skier?
b. What would be a typical speed for a 50-60 hp motor
c. How much gas would I need to bring a long for a day of fun?
Thanks.

Re: 50-60 hp outboard

THats a really open ended question.

Some 15' glass boats weigh a mere 450 lbs, but some weigh 1500lbs. Hull design has a lot to do with it.

You can pull a skier with a 30hp, if the boat and its contents are light enough.

A "day of fun" may be 5 gallons for some people, of 40 gallons for others.

A 60 hp 4 stroke will likely use 5 gallons of gas per hour, at wide open throttle. 3 gallons per hour at cruising speed.

Tubing can be done almost off any boat with a standard sized tube. Skiing is another story. What kind/model of boat is it? What's it rated for?

True cobra. Ihave a 16 footer that used to have a 650 Merc on the back of my heavy Wellcraft and I had a heck of a time pulling a skier. I could do it, but he had to use both skies to do it and even then, it was tough. And he only weighed 165#... Tubing no problem, though.
