5 wire harness on a Mazda Tribute

We just took delivery of a 2006 Four WInns Horizon 180 and it has the surge brake system on it. Our tow vehicle, a 2004 Mazda Tribute, has a 4 wire harness system, while the trailer uses a 5 wire system. We have used it without that wire with no problems. What does that 5th wire do (we currently have to lock out the reverse manually with the pin to prevent the trailer from locking up)? Has anyone heard of putting a 5th wire to the harness? I'm sure the dealership could help us out, but I just wanted the opinion of the fine people of the forums.

That 5th wire probably deactivates the reverse lockout. Also, laws in many states now require reverse lights on new trailers, so will need to have 5 wire connectors.

The fifth wire simply ties into the back-up lights on your Mazda.
