Need to replace the seals on my Tilt Cylinder on my '95 175 Johnson.
Going to order a tool from 5 Star Marine (0326485) to remove the end cap.
Anyone have any experience w/ their seal kits?
Any insight is appreciated....

VP meaning Volvo Penta?
So you think their kits are good quality?
Yes on the VP

I can only compare the quality of the seals. I use Hercules seals in my cylinder designs. I do not know how it compares to the supplier that provided the cylinders to VP (or Merc or others)

Orings are standardized commodities but they have a self life.

Orings are sensitive to ozone (electric motors) and UV (sunlight). Beware of people selling new, old stock orings rand repair kits.

Buy direct from a high volume supplier to assure fresh orings

These are all new kits, not NOS. Also, a bit more to cylinder seals than just orings. Wiper seals, gland seals, rod seals and piston seals.

Nothing wrong with the 5 star kit. I was making the point of not buying NOS to save a couple of bucks.

Talked to the guy 2 weeks ago about rebuilding my trim assembly while I had it out to change the motor. Decent price with 2 year warranty.

Lots of different piston designs out there. A few use square cross sections but the vast majority are AS568 cross sections.

Seen a lot of 568 cross sections used as rod wipers as well. The T&T on my old Merc was straight orings. The wipers on the tilt cylinders on my Evinrude are orings as well.
