I just bought a wards 5 hp outboard from the late 40's early 50's and i was wondering where to find a prop that would work for it. I purchased it on ebay and the guy sent me a prop that was to small to fit on the shaft. Judging by other motors from the same period it takes a longer prop that is more cork skrewed than what i was sent. Is there a equivelent prop that would fit from another manufactuer. Who made this motor, OMC, gale? also what is the recommended fuel mix?
thanks
steve

Re: 5 hp sea king prop

Several companies made Sea Kings for Monkey Wards. Need a model number or picture to tell what you have.

In all probability though, it is a Gale. If it is a non-shift Gale it take a rather special prop with water inlet holes through the hub, just in front of the blades. These holes supply a positive supply of water to the water pump.

If Gale, it is 24:1 mix with TC-W3 oil. May have said 16:1 on the label, but that was then and this is now.

It is a 1949-50 Made by Gale Products Division of OMC. There is a rubber clutch ring and hub that has to go with the propeller. The parts are:

550044 Propeller
550111 Clutch hub
550089 Clutch ring
171489 Clutch spacer washer
550274 Prop Nut
550861 Drive Pin
120249 Cotter Pin.

There are a lot of them around. It will sell on e-bay, probably for more than it is worth.

Go to aomci.org and post a free want ad on their Webvertize page for the propeller stuff.
