I have a mid nineties nissan 5hp that under a load in gear revs up and looses thrust almost like its popping into neutral but if I slow down and go easy it will get me home
Any Ideas what this could be?
Thanks Dan

I have the same motor with the same problem, but I can't seem to find a prop for it. Every place I look starts at 9 hp. Anyone know where I can find a prop for a 90's 5hp 2-stroke Nissan?

Standard prop is a 7.8" x8P for that motor (I have the Tohatsu flavor.) If you search " 7.8 nissan propeller" on the internet you'll find that Cabelas and a few others have them. 7P and 9P's are also available on some sites. Also, I see props on Ebay fairly regularly for it. I just passed one up last week for $25 there. I have a spare 7.8"x7P (for heavier boat) but am unsure if I want to part with it yet. I know as soon as i do, I'm inviting disaster ;-)
hth

p.s. Don't know the condition of your spun prop but I did have a spun & chipped prop ( from a Johnson 70) reconditioned some years back. Not sure if it's feasable and/ or cost effective on a small one like this one though.

Re: 5 hp nissan two stroke

I have one guy I contacted tell me that the prop for my older (90's) 2-stroke is the same as the one for the newer 4-stroke. The parts numbers are different, he says they are the same prop. Is this true?

Same props...Part numbers are always in a state of flux as manufacturers make minor changes all the time. I think we have had four or five part number changes on some of the 5 hp props over the last 24 years.

I replaced the prop and all is well. The rubber bushing in the prop was damaged. Thanks all.

I also have this problem!

I was also wondering... Do I want a larger prop for a small (inflatable) or do I shoot for a smaller prop for smaller boat? I am new to boating, :)

Prop size varies either not at all or very little. The angle of the blades(pitch) is what you need to look at and if necessary, make a change.
