5 HP Motor Info Needed

Know very little about Honda outboard motors, at least so far.

There is one coming up at an estate auction. Just says it a Honda 5 HP outboard. Ill check sn when I see it.

Have they always been 4 stroke? I did find a sn sheet, but it appears that the 5HP came around in 1999 or 2001?

Anything I might look for? good motor? bad motor? I realize (and have experienced) that any estate outboard motor purchase, can be a crap-shoot, but surely this time it's a gem.

Ball park value?

On my very first boat (O'Day 23 ft sailboat) it had a Honda 7.5 HP that was 4 stroke. I bought it used back in 1979ish, so they had 4 strokes a long time. That was a great engine.
Don't know about the 5hp, but is it is based in the old 7.5, expect good things from it.

BUT, condition, condition, condition trumps most other things.

I have a '94-ish 8HP Honda and it has been good. The only issue I have with it is that the low speed jet clogs easily, and when it does, it idles poorly and stalls when throttled up. But it is easy to clean as it screws out the top of the carb. That happens even though I run it dry after every use. As far as I know, Honda never made 2 cycles.
