I have installed a carb kit in my 5 HP Nissan(after cleaning the carb very well). I have tried to adjust the float level by slighly bending the tab on the float that engages the needle valve. I am unable to get the tab propely postioned. The carb either causes the gas not to enter or causes the gas to enter and run out of the small hole at the top of the carb. I have tried with trial and error to make this this ajustment properly many times, but have been unsuccesful. What is the secret?
Thanks

Re: 5 HP Carb Problems

Are there instructions on the proper level in the carb kit? I am not familiar with this particular carburetor but can give you generic instructions.

A problem sometimes is the float is incorrectly installed upside down. Take a look at your instructions and see if you have it right. You have the float correct, flip the carburetor over so that the needle valve is closed. At this point, most floats should be level or the unhinged end very slightly higher than the hinged end. Find the nipple where the fuel hose will attach to the carburetor and blow air into it (you can use your mouth). You should not be able to blow air in since this is the position where the fuel bowl would be full. Now flip the carburetor back over to how it would normally be installed on the engine. The float should drop down maybe 1/2 inch. Test again by blowing into the fuel nipple. Air should flow in since this is the position where the fuel bowl is not full. Again these are generic instructions but could apply to a Nissan carburetor.
