Still working on my little boys 5 hp. Last time i had to pull driveshaft through waterpump to get loverunit off. Now we removed powerhead and heated shaft with a heatgun. Clamped a pair of wisegrips on shaft and hit them with a hammer. Shaft is married to Cranckshaft. HELP !! Does someone have a good idea ? What takes the beating in the motor ?

The only thing I can think of, is to secure the flywheel to prevent turning. Then try to turn the shaft back and forth, while pounding and heating.

What roscoe suggests might do the trick GD. The splines on the drive shaft get worn down so there is indentations from the crankend splines. This sorta acts like a key that has to be turned in opposite directions then pulled out. If you have the head off, turn it upside down and soak the splines in JB Blaster overnight. May help losen it up.

WE GOT IT OUT NOW :D

We made a homemade puller: we took 3" of 3/4" waterpipe threaded in both ends and screwed 2 endcaps on. Drilled a 1/2" hole through both endcaps. Put this puller on thedriveshaft, just below the cranckend. Put the driveshaft in the grip on my workbench and put two wisegrips on the otherside. We started unscrewing the endcaps, in this way shaft was pulled out against the cranckshaftend, avoiding to put force on anything else. It worked, took a LOT of power, but went out smoothly. Just wanted to pass on the idea.

Thanks for the support.
