Has almost 900 hours on it. No obvious problems but I assume the valve lash needs to be adjusted by now. First, is that a reasonable assumption? Secondly, what does adjusting the valve lash actually do for the engine in terms of performance? Thanks.

Hydraulic lifters DO NOT require readjustment.

Why is there a procedure for it in the manual?

There is procedures for checking ring gap clearances in the manual too, but that doesn't mean you have to take it apart and check them every couple of years.
IF there is work done on the engine that requires the heads being removed, when it goes back together you have to readjust the lifter back to specs.
Look in the front of the manual at the maintenance schedule, that is what you should go by, not do something because it shows how to do it.

I just thought the motor could possibly benefit from it due to it's age. I definately don't need to create work that isn't necessary. Thanks Don.
