Does evryone run the Mercruiser 25W-40 engine oil or are others also suitable? I've always run Mobil One full synthetic in my vehicles and have never had oil breakdown or viscosity issues. I see Mobil has a 20W-50 full synthetic available. Anyone see a problem with this in a mercruiser engine?
Thanks in advance for the advice. This forum is absolutely the BEST!

Re: 5.7L Engine oil

Do a search for "oil" and you will read for days.

There are 100 different reasons to use 100 different oils. They are all wrong, but they are all still right. Bottom line - if you are not going to use what the manufacturer recomends then what gets posted here doesn't matter.

With that said, I do not use the merc oil in the engine, but I DO use it in the drive.

What is there to get??? Doesn't your OEM give you a recommendation on what to use? Do you think they and all the engieners that designed it are stupid and people that watch oil commercials are better informed than they are? sigh.....

Are you saying some of the stuff on TV is a lie? I'm shocked!:D
