Just bought a used 1994 Proline with a bad oit pan. The engine is not original and was replaced by a local marina. Any way to find the horsepower rating by casting number? 14093638.

lee_in_nj,
I assume by casting number, you are refering to the block casting number? or maybe the Head casting numbers? Its hard to say from just a casting number anyway because there are too many other variables like carb, intake, exhaust, cam, etc... To get more info based on the casting numbers, call your local dealer's(Ford or GM... I think Merc uses GM, not sure though) parts Dept. and see what they can tell you.

I know that OMC put model and serial numbers on their motors and I would imagine that Merc would do the same. Thats probably your best bet for getting a stock HP number.

Unless who ever replaced the motor was realy into motors (dosent sound like they are) it probley a stock chevy with 180 to 200 hp. Like said befor, you can change that by diffrent carb, cam, ect. Using a stock bottom end and heads with a cam change, intake and carb I can get 280hp out of one easy. M
