I recently rebuilt the motor and now I keep tearing up pump impellers. It all started with bad gas. After cleaning the fuel system my father was reving the motor in the yard to blow all the crap out of the motor. It seemed to be ok so we took it out and we put a load on it. It suddenly dropped from about 3500 rpm to only running at idle and we tried to limp it back to the dock apearently the temp guage wasn't reading right and we ended up with an engine fire. We rebuilt the motor and we had to replace both the exhaust bellows and the drive boot along with the shift cable that had been burnt so bad it had seized and melted but the outdrive seemed ok otherwise. We have since burnt up 3 sea water impellers in less than a half hour each. It seems to be running extremely rich and I can smell gas in the exhaust water when running it in the yard. We thought the fuel may be due to the fact it hasn't been broke in yet. We found a small kink in the hose coming from the outdrive that brings the sea water into the transom and fixed that. Thinking it was ready we put it in the water last night and when we started it water poured out of the weep hole in the sea water pump and it started overheating so we pulled the sea water pump. It was destroyed. Trying to figure out why we've been tearing up pumps we started the motor with the pump housing off to see if the shaft was bent or wobbling and the strangest thing happened. Sea water and coolant along with exhaust started shooting out of the sea water inlet hose. The only thing I can come up with is that there is some kind of gasket in the foot that seperates the intake and exhaust lines that has failed allowing exhaust into the intake tubes. As for the coolant, I'm thinking a rupture in the heat exchanger. Thanks for reading. I wanted to make sure the history was understood. And by the way, there is no oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil. The rest of the motor seems solid.
