5.7 gi lays over at full throttle

New to Iboats, so howdy fellow lake people. Ok long story short, bought a boat that had a overheated motor. So had a local machine shop rebuild it. Sorry its a 1997 four winns 240 Volvo 5.7l GI duo-prop. Had it installed and went to the lake this weekend and it starts and runs great until ya floor it. She just kinda lays over like someone is adding the choke to her. I know this is vivid just curious if anyone has had this problem b4? Thanks in advance

Hello,

Read my post below, there is even a video of mine doing the same thing. Its a volvo penta 5.7 gi pmda, duo prop, overheated motor last year, rapido marine long block installed and have a similiar power problem as you described.

Take a look at my post, its called 1994 Volvo Penta GI ..... CC190CC, i think its probably 5-10 posts down from this one.

There are a couple of links from Don to troubleshooting manuals. They will tell you how to troubleshoot the system. Watch my video and let us know if its a similiar problem. I am free reving mine in the video buts its worse under a load.

He does not have the same setup you do. Your system was only used on the 94 MD models. He has a 97 (Maybe) model.

Uncle, what is the full model number, or the serial number of your engine.

Chad thanks very help ful video just not the same issues. Mine is clean as a whistle up to 4k ish and its literally the last 1/8th of the throttle to wide open. It has 4hrs on the new motor so I wasent taking it past 4k rpm tried once but it layed over so I'm confused.Thanks and Don where would I find those numbers?

OH ok, yeah figured I would throw it out there. I know how frustrating it can be and sometimes any little bit of advise may help.

Mind ya this motor is covered up with wrap around seats and I had to pratice my contortionist abilitys to c the tag.

Well, for one thing, you have an OMC, not a Volvo your Model and serial numbers are OMC.. So I will move this over to the OMC Forum.
In your original post you called this a 5.7 GI, but according to your numbers, you have a carbed engine, not injected.

Have you checked the fuel filter to see if there is water in it? Look at the carb, does the accelerator pump squirt 2 good jets of fuel into the carb if you pump the throttle lever?
When was the last full tuneup?

Well I know for sure its tbi injected there is an ecm that sits infront of the tb. and its got a Volvo and omc stamps all over. Everything is new risers, manifolds, fuel filter, plugs, cap, rotors wires, t-stat, impeller, everything I could buy new

Where did you get those numbers? Did you look at the metal tag on the port aft side of the block?

Look for some numbers on the outdrive, and the transom shield. See if we can find if the engine was converted to EFI.or if the block was maybe replaced.

The transom shield didn't have any numbers on it when we had the motor out. Well the block is a one peice rear main factory roller block if that makes any difference to ya. I do know that from the rebuild. The outdrive is a sx style duo-prop drive ill get the numbers off of drive when I get home

Well, that SN is also OMC. My guess is the engine was converted to EFI. One thing you might try if you really want to know what came with the boat is to call 4winns with the hull id number and see if they have the original engine and drive serial numbers and see what matches.
But, in the mean time, you have a running problem. Can you post a picture of the throttle body and ECM and maybe I can match it up with something.

Well have some pics but I guess by phone won't let me drag them to the attached box so........... I guess ima hook it up to a diagnosis tool and c if it pulls any info. IMO it feels like a fuel delivery issue.
