5.5 hp motor swap

hey guys im wondering if if a motor swap is possible?what i have is a mint 1956 5.5 johnson,that was run with straight gas and was blown (not me i bought it like that).i have a 1963 5.5 johnson that runs great but is as ugly as sin.can i swap powerheads here?

Not real sure without looking. The '63 has a thermostat, and might have a slightly modified powerhead-to-exhaust housing. Maybe somebody else can comment on this.
Also, the '63 has a fuel pump instead of pressure tank, which will have to be dealt with. You might prefer the fuel pump anyway?

yes fuel pump prefered was just wondering if complete powereheads can be swaped.

The '56 has ears on the cylinder head that hold the rear cowling in place - '63 lacks the ears. Also, the thermostat on the '63 head may interfere with the cowling of the '56. Most everything else is "close enough"....
