Newbie here to the forum.. Question: How do you tell what kind of ignition you have.. I have '93 Searay, 5.0LX GM, 4 barrel, mercruiser. I want to check my 8* timing and been reading here about jumper wires, etc.. Also, on the notched timing tab, is each of the notches 4*? Need a procedure to follow.. thanks.. Clint

Re: 5.0L GM timing question

Does it have points ignition or electronic ignition?

I recommend a timing light with an dial. Then you can set the dial to 8? and just line up the TDC mark.

It has electronic.. I have a Craftsman timing light and it is not adjustable..

You have a Thunderbolt IV ignition. No wires to jumper or anything. Just aim your timing light and turn the distributor.

Look what I found in the OEM service manual.
