Is there a huge difference in gas consumption between the two, and do you notice a lot more power with the 5l. Im use to the 3l engines, I know they all burn threw mega gas, its a boat, but still I ask.

Re: 5.0L compared to 3.0L

Heck yeah there is a HUGE difference between the 2....

The 3.0 is what you would call an "economy" I/O but uses more gas than a 4 banger in a vehicle because it runs at higher RPMs on a consistant basis. Most of them are rated between 130-140 HP.

The 5.0 is a small block V8 that gives you V8 torque that you simply can't get from the 3.0. I have seen them range from 140-220 HP. They are going to use considerably more gas.

Re: 5.0L compared to 3.0L

I moved this to non-repair as it is more of a general engine discussion.

If all else is equal, the 3.0 will probably get better fuel efficiency. Buttttt, an underpowered boat with a 3.0 carb vs say the same with a 5.0 MPI could be miles apart in favor of the 5.0. Typically, the size of the boat determines fuel use more than the size of the engine. Want to add any more specifics? This is probably too general of a comparison, and maybe too wide apart to be meaningful.

Now the difference is 5.0 302 ford or 5.0l 305 GM? The ford 302 has the torque but no HP....sorry I had to )
