Hi there,
So my family has 2007 5.0GL volvo penta motor boat and after not running for +3wks and it would only click once. After giving the solenoid started a little knock it engaged the starter motor and started run (retested to make sure). upon further investigation we saw a very little bit of fuel leaking somewhere near the fuel separator filter and looks like a very small bit of fuel is leaking out into the water when we start the engine but not afterwards.

The questions i have are:
  • Do i possibly need to replace the solenoid (had a new starter put in from previous waterlogged)? i'm assuming so if it happens again.
  • What's the best way to find fuel leaks that I'm having?
  • Is the small fuel leak in the water a issue on the inboard motor?
I'll get the exact model this weekend and update this post

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,...... 1st off, find the fuel leak inside the boat, 'n fix it,.....
How,..??..?? Look for it,......

As for the starter issue, start by cleaning to shiny metal Clean, both ends of both battery cables,.....

There should never be any fuel leaks especially on a gas inboard that’s a real hazard. Starting issue you many need to go thru every connection in the starter circuit to track down the bad connection or source of resistance.

Disconnect the battery cables until you fix the fuel leak. A fuel leak is likely a crack in a hose or fitting.

Okay I've managed to find the main issue it is the water pump is slightly leaking when running (can see slight drip of water on the serpentine belt). it has the plastic housing for the water pump from what I can tell.
for repairs i've got two options:
  1. parts repair kit (wo metal body) $42
  2. full kit w metal body - $138 w import taxes included (video example of repair)
I'm thinking it should be fine to have it running a few more times before october and then switch it out with the repair kit or should i be doing it sooner? I'm in a small lake not going out to any big water at all.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My thought is getting the repair kit wo the metal body but im wondering if i should get the beefier body instead...

If you smell gas, you have a gas leak and it needs fixed
If no gas can be smelled, it's probably just water and your ok, but do keep checking

You will need to inspect the pump housing to see if the repair kit or full kit is needed.

The fuel leak has seem to go away after tightening the connector on top. I've ordered the parts repair kit (wo metal body) $42 so it comes in on friday before thanksgiving in order to have it repaired and take it for a spin. Will let you know how it goes.
Gave the boat a spin today and afterwards the engine bay was not a dry as before and could definitely see the water trickle. Going for a gamble that its the seal that's gone and not the housing. if it still leaks after using the repair kit ill just get the full kit next week and keep the repair kit for next replacement.
