Hello all and its nice to be back here!
Preparations for the summer stumbled upon an unexpected problem: after a few months of not having operated the engine and having disconnected the batteries I put everything back in normal order and tried to start the engine. I turned the key in position 1 and nothing happened: no beeps, no sound from the fuel pump, no response from the gauges. I turned the key to the start position and the starter worked perfectly but the engine never started because nothing else propably worked. I checked the engine switch( on the helm with the key) and it perfectly receives 12v and sends it in both key positions. I also checked the three big fuses on the engine and the 50amp circuit breaker and they also seem fine. The only things I havent checked are the starter relay( located at the same spot as the fuses) the ecu and the ignition module because I dont know how to. Ignition coil, spark plugs and wires as well as the distributor cap have been replaced a few months ago and everything worked a treat at the time. Can anyone please help me on this? Any ideas of what could be wrong?
Thank you very much in advance!!!

Is your safety lanyard connected?

The safety lanyard switch does not keep the starter from cranking. It only stops the ignition.

Don, he states is cranks at position 2, but nothing at position one, sounds like safety lanyard or it's wiring.

Hello again!!!
I have remove the safety lanyard a few years now and Nothing has changed in the wiring since. I will check it though. The engine cranks but wont start because it seems that everything regarding the ignition does not work. In the first turn of the key where the beeps are supposed to be heard, the fuel pump to load fuel and the gauges to move I get nothing . In the next key position the starter works but the engine does not start propably because there is no ignition. Thank you again!!!

Sorry about that, man did I read that thread backwards. :embarassed:

To not have fuel pumps, alarm, instruments all at the same time, It just about has to be the ignition switch if your instruments are wired with a Volvo setup. They each come from a separate purple wire attached to the I terminal of the ignition switch.

Hello Don and thank you again!
I did perform the check procedure that you sent me and I didnt have light at the TL in step 5(terminals 30 and 87). Due to the fact that I didnt have anyone to help me I could not perform step 12. I did doublecheck, though, the ignition switch and I had light at both positions of the key turn.
Any ideas?

How did you remove the safety lanyard?
I'd check the connections and wiring, especially where you removed the switch.
Could be a bad connection.

Hi wkb2460 and thank you for you hint. I ll check it although I never had any trouble. I simply made an override of the lanyard and bridged its wires and it has always been absolutely trouble free since 2008. Everything is possible in the sea of course. I just realized that we have the exact same boat. Mine is 2001 with a 2000 production engine.

Nice boats!!

When I saw your engine post, 5.0 Gi PEFS, I can say I know a lot about that engine.
Your problem sure sounds like it's in the lanyard wiring. I'd check all the lanyard connections first.
