5.0 Volvo Penta Oil Leak - Help!

Alright guys, I am obviously new to this forum, so be gentle. I need some advice. I recently bought a 23' Chaparral 230 SSI with a 5.0 Volvo Penta Engine. When I did the water test with the guy I bought it from, everything seemed fine. I did not notice any issues as far as oil leaking, etc. I took it out for the first time a week later and when I was backing off the trailer I smelled what I thought was oil. I checked the engine and sure enough, oil was leaking out of the Oil Filter. When I bought the boat I spoke to the mechanic who maintained it (the guy kept it at a slip) and he mentioned that he just changed the oil. Well, I put it back on the trailer and took it to the shop across the road from the ramp (Lacey's Marina for those of you familiar with Greer's Ferry). I asked them to go over the engine and to fix the oil leak. They came back and told me that it was only a loose oil filter and that it took 4 turns just to get it "hand tight". $347 dollars later, I clean the engine before I head out again and I run the boat for about an hour and half (weekend after I pick the boat back up). When I get back to the ramp I check the bilge and I see the brown milkshake of another oil leak. I check the level and sure enough... down to the bottom of the dip stick. I mean, what the heck? What did I spend 347 bucks on? Did another problem develop? Did they leave the o-ring on from the last oil filter, or do I have a leak somewhere else? I just do not know what to do. I should hold Lacey's accountable for the work they said they completed. Then again, I should hold the original mechanic accountable for the oil filter issue to begin with. I am beginning to wonder if I got screwed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Pull the oil filter off and count the seals. Then put a new filter on it. Then clean everything up and run it and check it every now and then and see that the leak stopped.
